Scientific Name:
Aponogeton fenestralis
Range:
Africa: Madagaskar.
Maximum height:
60cm. (24").
Temperature requirements:
71-80° F.
Light tolerance:
Medium.
Difficulty:
Hard.
Notes:
This remarkable and fragile plant needs to be removed from the aquarium once a year for a period of on average around 2 months (basically until new shoots sprout from the root system), so the plant can regain strength again. It should be stored in a dark, moist and cooler (64-68° F) environment: suitable materials for storage are moist toilet paper, moss or peat.
The tank needs to be crystalclear, so a good mechanical filtration is of the essence. If this requirement can't be met, floating debris will get trapped in the mace-like leafs, which then will turn soft and mushy and die off.
